The public sector has a wide range of tasks to perform, and illumination is required by a wide variety of companies and authorities. These include, for example, municipal waste disposal companies and sewage associations as well as municipal road maintenance depots or police stations. Each of these areas presents its own challenges.

Luminaires in public spaces: Target of vandalism and tampering

Lighting in public spaces is repeatedly exposed to vandalism. Sometimes, frustration manifests in wilful attempts to destroy or tamper with surrounding property. Caution is called for in these situations, as broken or smashed luminaires can pose a safety risk. Graffiti also restricts functionality, often resulting in an insufficient illumination level. The design and material of the luminaires are robust and protect against vandalism. In fact, a special coating on the covers makes it easier to remove paint. Special screws ensure that the housing cannot be opened by anyone, and a concealed cable entry protects supply lines from tampering. Finally, high impact resistance ensures that brute force has little effect.

Recycling and water management – chemical resistance required

In public spaces, the destructiveness of individuals can be dangerous to luminaires, whereas in the field of recycling and water management, it is often the surrounding atmosphere: Chemicals attack the material or penetrate the luminaire and damage the electronics. Frequent failures and high maintenance costs are usually the outcome. This is why special attention is to be paid to the resistance of the material to toxic vapours such as ammonia. The tightness of the luminaire is also important in some cases, for example, in drinking water tanks.
