Light accompanies every work process, often unnoticed but indispensable. It provides orientation, supports workflows, and ensures that complex environments function safely. But modern lighting can do more today. It can be intelligently managed, precisely controlled, and flexibly adapted to the rhythm of a building or facility. Reliable lighting ensures smooth operations in industry, infrastructure, and other complex environments. XARA® was developed by NORKA specifically to control lighting intelligently and in an energy-optimized manner under extreme conditions. XARA® provides precise, demand-based lighting control and automatically adjusts the lighting to movement, daylight, and the specific requirements of your facility.

Lighting levels are dynamically controlled based on usage, time of day, and ambient light, thereby creating optimal lighting conditions exactly where they are needed. Whether it’s simple applications with master/slave logic, projects with sensors, push buttons, and control elements such as displays, or complex systems with monitoring, central control, and integrated emergency lighting, XARA® covers the entire spectrum. From a small entry-level system to a comprehensive system solution, the lighting management system grows with your needs.

Intelligently connectableOur lighting control system utilizes established, cross-manufacturer bus systems such as DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) and Casambi, offering both wired and wireless solutions.
Maximizing Energy SavingsXARA® enables intelligent, flexible, and energy-efficient control of modern lighting systems, thereby making it possible to reduce lighting energy consumption to a minimum.
Adaptable to your projectFrom standalone luminaires to complex systems integrated with building management systems and featuring automatic testing, XARA® offers a tailored solution for your project without any system disconnects.
Robust sensorsThe components of an XARA® lighting control system are built to withstand the same harsh conditions as our luminaires, making them the perfect complement for demanding environments.
Reliable, all from a single sourceControl panels, sensors, and lighting—all from a single source: With its XARA® lighting control system, NORKA offers a comprehensive package ranging from consultation and planning to hardware and commissioning, followed by ongoing support.

XARA®-Basic

XARA®-BASIC is a simple, preconfigured lighting control system with integrated sensors for motion-based control, including a brightness threshold. Depending on the application, the system can either turn the lights off completely or reduce them to a basic brightness level (e.g., 15%) during standby mode. The luminaires operate independently or as a master/slave solution and can be put into service quickly and easily thanks to Plug & Play. The integrated sensor technology also allows for use in hazardous areas such as underpasses.

Lichtszenen und Tageslichtsteuerung in mittelgroßen Anlagen wie Schwimmbädern lassen sich über Bedienpanele mit XARA-Advanced realiseren.

The Advanced System is suitable for small to medium-sized facilities such as sports halls, swimming pools, and laboratories. Thanks to its plug-and-play and DIY features, the system can be installed quickly, while the software configuration allows for custom settings. RGB color switching, timers, emergency lighting integration, as well as displays and push-button controls provide full control, high flexibility, and enhanced user convenience.

XARA®-Professional

The Professional System is ideal for large-scale installations with complex requirements and a high degree of customization, such as railway depots, wastewater treatment plants, or professional sports facilities. It offers maximum adaptability and control options—going beyond simple lighting control.

Thanks to software programming, each system can be individually configured, while the all-inclusive package guarantees maximum flexibility and convenience. Perfect for demanding projects where reliability and efficiency are crucial.

Frequently asked questions about XARA® and lighting control

1. How does NORKA support project planners, architects and operators with lighting design using XARA®?
NORKA provides advice and support to project planners and architects, for example by developing lighting concepts, providing detailed technical information, and offering comprehensive programming and commissioning services. Depending on the project, we can also pre-assemble luminaires, sensor systems or control panels.
2. How can XARA® be integrated into existing infrastructure?
In many cases, a XARA® can be integrated into existing systems or retrofitted. Modern LED luminaires with a DALI interface are particularly well suited for retrofitting. However, older systems can often be integrated too through the use of control units, sensors or interface solutions. Whether retrofitting is possible depends on the existing cabling and the luminaires in use. In practice, however, most buildings can be modernised without completely replacing the lighting.
3. How much energy can I actually save with lighting management?
Depending on usage and the type of building, the use of XARA® can reduce lighting energy costs by up to 60–80%. The system ensures that lights are only switched on when they are actually needed. Presence detectors detect whether people are in the room, whilst daylight sensors automatically adjust artificial lighting to the available natural light. The potential for savings is particularly high in areas such as corridors, maintenance corridors, warehouses or work pits, where lights are often left on unnecessarily. In addition, the service life of the luminaires is extended as they are operated at full power less frequently.
