No electricity means no light – and no light means no sense of direction. This is precisely where safety lighting comes in: it ensures that people can still see clearly and move safely through buildings even in the event of a sudden power cut. If the general power supply fails, safety lighting immediately takes over the function of general lighting. This has the highest priority and is required by law. Escape route luminaires are used to mark escape routes and point the way to the nearest exit. Options include self-contained luminaires or central battery luminaires. Self-contained luminaires are self-sufficient, the luminaire or a connected emergency power supply unit is equipped with a battery which takes over the power supply to the luminaire in the event of a mains failure. Central battery luminaires are powered by a central battery system during a power cut.
