NORKA is very familiar with the requirements for lighting in potentially explosive atmospheres, so-called EX areas. Our explosion-proof luminaires WEIMAR and LAUSANNE are used in the most difficult areas with harsh conditions in compliance with exactly defined safety and lighting requirements. The new EX-protected luminaires for zone 1/21 impress with their special technical features and high quality of light.
Our WEIMAR explosion-proof ceiling and wall-mounted luminaire with state-of-the-art LEDs can be connected on both sides. It also has five-core through wiring for installation in light strips and a sealing system for protection rating IP66 and IP67. Can be used in potentially explosive atmospheres in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.

Our LAUSANNE tube light for potentially explosive atmospheres is equipped with the latest LED technology and has IP66, IP67 and IP68 degree of protection. Suitable for operation at extreme ambient temperatures from -55 °C to +70 °C (switch on above -40 °C). Our LAUSANNE can be used in potentially explosiveatmospheres in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
The WEIMAR and LAUSANNE explosion-proof luminaires serve technical installations in production areas and industries where there is a risk of hazardous explosive atmospheres due to flammable dusts or combustible gases, vapours, and mists.
Typical fields of work include sewage treatment plants (digestion towers, maintenance corridors, aeration tanks), food processing plants (mills, breweries, bakeries) or energy plants (LNG terminals, hydrogen workshops, etc.).

EX luminaires on the plateau of the digestion tank of a sewage treatment plant for areas with explosive atmospheres according to zones 1, 2, 21 and 22.
The WEIMAR and LAUSANNE luminaires are certified and designed as explosion-proof according to ATEX / IECEx to protect people and process engineering systems in potentially explosive atmospheres.
ATEX is the short form of the French description for explosive atmospheres ‘ATmosphères EXplosibles’ and a European certification according to the valid ATEX directive of the European Union.
EX areas are categorised into EX protection zones - depending on the required degree of protection against explosions.
Our new explosion-proof luminaires WEIMAR and LAUSANNE have a higher EX protection degree and can also be used in zone 1/21. Other EX-protected LEDs from NORKA (BASEL LED, HEIDELBERG LED, BERN LED EX) for potentially explosive atmospheres can be used in Zone 2/22 as standard.

Table: Overview of ATEX zone categorisation of explosion protection
IECEx (International Electrotechnical Commission Explosive) is an international certification (not in Europe or the USA) in compliance with IEC standards.
The IECEx zone categorisation is similar to ATEX. Only Zone 0/20 and Zone 1/21 are summarised in IECEx.
